Food Systems Atlas: Sustainability & Resilience
San Luis Obispo County Food System Coalition 2009

2024 Southern California ASLA Merit Award in the Research Category

The San Luis Obispo (SLO) County Food Systems Atlas connects culture, equity, and environment, in the context of food systems, to inform land-use planning, sustainability, and resilience at both the County and community level. Commissioned by the Food System Coalition (FSC), the Atlas is informed by partnerships with the food bank and non-profits serving the farm labor and small farmer communities. The Atlas applies landscape architecture/planning methods to a socio-ecological challenge outside the scope of traditional practice, connecting social values, environment, climate, development, labor, and transportation to successfully influence resilience and sustainability planning.
