The Pop Up Art Space Community Workshop Series took place over 12 months in four locations across San Luis Obispo County. The workshops combined educational and community input activities focused on food systems planning. Designed to be engaging and to utilize making as a means to spark discussion, the workshops surveyed community members about multiple aspects of the food system through means such as large-scale mapping, recipe cards, shopping lists, painting, and other creative actions. Workshops were designed to occur in alignment with existing community events including street fairs, art walks and swap meets in order to engage a broader population then might attend more traditional planning meetings. Community input from the events informed a subsequent food planning report, the Food Systems Atlas.
